Beach Drive South
Description
In the days of the 1960's era diver
with nearly limitless stamina, great physical shape, astonishing
air efficiency and infinite patience, this might have been
a great dive. For the rest of us however, it's mostly a
spot of flat ground with a lot of grass and little else.
To find it, start from the beach down by the stairs, and
there you are. It starts at around 15 - 20 feet of depth
and eventually slopes downward. If you're among the above
divers, you might just tough it out far enough to find some
other interesting spot in the Alki area, but perhaps you're
just better off STARTING your dive elsewhere. Inexperienced
divers are not recommended for this site, as it eventually
reaches depths of below 100 feet. You are probably better
off sitting in your car breathing out of your tank for an
hour. You'll waste the same air, but at least you'll keep
your wetsuit dry for the next dive!
Location
From Seattle take I-5 south and
take the W. Seattle Freeway Exit. Take the Harbor Ave Exit
and exit to right on Harbor Ave. Follow this road, along
side the water, until the road turns into Beach Drive. Follow
this road, past the lighthouse. Drive past Weatherwatch
and it is the next park type looking place. You will see
concrete stairs leading into the water.
