Description
This a classic NorthWest dive
site where you can expect to find lots of people! What
makes this site so great you say, well to start off all
the navigation is made simple with long ropes to all the
attractions and the bathroom facilities are exemplary!
( for those of us who like to change in a warm private
environment ) Probably the best feature of this site is
the fact that it's always changing, volunteers are always
adding new features always leaving something to look at
(no matter how many times you make this dive).
This site is packed full
with different things to look at (although the area near
the ferry terminal is a definite E ticket!!), with lots
of wildlife both in natural and man-made (make that "blown
up and sunk") habitats. Not even the navigationally inept
have been left out, as the nearby shop sells underwater
maps to the whole park. (There is also a map posted on
the north side of the bathroom wall at the park) Be sure
to check with these guys for any new attractions that
may have been blown up, so you can catch the great new
wrecks! They're an excellent shop, and possibly the last
refuge for excellent and honest Underwater-Sp.. staffers.
Most of the diving found here
is within the beginner to intermediate range of difficulty.
Depths range from 20 - 50 feet at most (high-tide), and
visibility can often extend a great distance. Be prepared
for some potentially long and taxing surface swims if
you care to conserve most of your air. There can be a
pretty heavy current and water movement, especially when
ferries are entering and exiting the nearby Edmonds ferry
terminal. Often, the current runs toward the terminal,
so be VERY careful as you surface not to encounter any
large boats.
Another concern to be aware
of, is that this site is protected as a natural wildlife
sanctuary. Anything you kill here had better be eaten
before you surface!
Location
The Edmonds Underwater Park is located
approximately 10 miles north of Seattle in the town of Edmonds
Washington. The park itself sits on the northern side of
the Kingston Ferry terminal. To get to the Edmonds Underwater
Park from Seattle, follow I-5 North. From I-5, take the
Edmonds/Kingston Ferry Exit. Follow the signs to the Kingston
Ferry. Stay to the left of the ferry lanes and follow them
until you are almost at the ferry dock. Once facing the
ferry dock, move over to the far most right lane and cross
the train tracks. You will see the parking lot on your right.
