Description
The Mukilteo State Park is public park that can be easily
accessed by all divers. Plan to dive straight out from the
public rest rooms else you will find yourself in 20' of water.
I would suggest heading out a short ways and continue down
the gradual slope. Here you will find the main attraction(s)
of the park, a wall at 40' and another at 70'. Be sure to
look for the familiar wolf eels and the occasional octopus,
though they are a rare sight here. If you plan ahead, bring
some food so you can feed the wolf eels. During a night dive,
we have also encountered amazing fluorescence in this area.
In fact, we never made it past 15' we were having so much
fun!
Specific Hazards
This dive is located near a public boat launch that is very
busy. With this in mind, it is a good idea to dive with a
flag if you are going during peak summer hours. Jet Ski's
have been known to brush right along the edge of the shore
along the beach making this a potentially dangerous dive.
You won't be moving all that much so don't worry about the
flag "holding you up".
Location
Mukilteo State Park is located at the small community
town of Mukilteo, Washington, just south of the Mukilteo/Whidbey
Island ferry Terminal. It's approximately 30 miles north of
Seattle on I-5. Follow I-5 north and take the Mukilteo/Whidbey
Island Exit. Follow the highway past Boeing into Mukilteo.
Follow the signs to the ferry dock (be sure not to enter the
ferry lanes), and drive all the way down to the T intersection.
Take a left at the intersection, and enter Mukilteo State
Park.
Other Interesting Information
** Confirmed cell phone coverage: AT&T Wireless, VoiceStream
** Full bathroom facilities are located at the park.
