Titlow Beach
Description
At one point in time Titlow
Beach used to be a working pier which has since burned
down. You will find two rows of pillings left from the
old ferry pier that act as a good reservoir for plant
life. In fact the anemones add so much 'white' to the
water, it makes me wonder if I should take out the pair
of broken sunglasses out of my BC!
Two more attractions for this
site include a sunken boat and a bottle collection to
the south of the ferry pier. Though I didn't find the
pile of bottles all that interesting, definitely not worth
the swim ( note: the depth for the bottle collection is
around 60-70' and is about 150-200 yards out). Throughout
this dive it is possible to come across some wolf eels,
octopus, and other small bottom fish.
Location
Take the exit for Highway 16
West (Gig Harbor) off of I-5. Before you reach the Tacoma
Narrows bridge you will take the Jackson Avenue exit and
take a left. From here take a right onto 6th Ave towards
Titlow Beach Park. To find the site go straight over some
railroad tracks and you should see the pilings in the
parking lot ahead.
