Description
This is one of those sites that
have a lot of potential. Keep in mind the key word...
POTENTIAL. If your in fairly good shape and don't mind
about a 20 minute surface swim then this dive is for you.
Once you make it out there, I think you will be pleasantly
surprised!
Back in the 70's 3 barges were
sunk, each marked with a colored buoy. They are in fairly
good condition considering how long the wooden hulls have
been exposed to the saltwater. To make your navigation
simple, each of the barges are linked together with rope
trails and tire bundles. You will find several interesting
creatures to look at including Rockfish, several types
of Perch and Anemone, crab, and the occasional Octopus.
If you have a boat, well your
in luck. If your like the rest of us and are usually required
to make that wonderful swim, then make sure to do this
dive at low tide. Keeping in mind that this is a State
Park, it is a wonderful place for non-divers as well.
Add this dive to your "lets take everyone to the
park while I dive" list!
Location
You will find Tolmie State Park
in south Puget Sound. From Seattle take I-5 south until
you reach the Yelm / Marvin Road exit. Follow this road
for about 4 miles until you reach 56th Ave NE and take a
right. Follow this road and you will find the park entrance.
Signs will point you to the divesite.
